Poker recognized as official sport in Lithuania
Lithuania has recognized poker as an official sport, while the Baltic state is also making progress with regard to legalizing online gambling. The Department of Physical Education and Sports recognized the Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation (LSPF) as an official sports association on March 20.
Andrius Tapinas, president of the Lithuanian Sport Poker Federation, commented: “This is a milestone in the process, and it has been appreciated by foreign colleagues. I am aware of the fact that this means a major step in the process of comparable global moves.”
The Lithuanian Sport Poker Federation will soon introduce its official tourney calendar to sports media in Lithuania, according to Andrius Tapinas, who also hosts a well-loved Lithuanian business television show. His big wins in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Unibet Open events featured the front pages of the main newspapers in Lithuania.
Inaugural Lithuanian Sport Poker Federation event
The Inaugural Lithuanian Sport Poker Federation event will be held from April 24 until 26 in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. It could be the largest poker tourney ever held in a Baltic nation, Tapinas added.
