23 year old Canadian wins Word Series of Poker
Duhamel had to play the final match against John Racener from Florida. Racener and Duhamel were the last two survivors of the November Nine and they left exactly 7319 contestants in the tournament behind them, before entering the finale.
Online poker on the rise
This tournament was the second-largest World Series of Poker
Main Event ever to be held and Duhamel’s victory underlines the fact that not only Americans can win the WSOP. Duhamel started with playing poker online and he is not the first online poker player to win the WSOP title. Ever since Chris Monkeymakers spectacular debut in 2003, online poker is more popular than ever.
Popular across the world
‘Poker is a game which is played worldwide,’ says Chris Cosenza, publisher of poker magazine Ante Up. ‘Not only Texans are playing this game and not all players are American and this has everthing to do with the rise of online poker. European players, as well as Canadian players have embraced Texas Hold’Em Poker
and the game’s popularity is getting bigger and bigger every day.’
