Retired fireman scoops €90.21 million Powerball jackpot
Stephen Kirwan (68) from Purling has scooped the Powerball
jackpot of €90.21 million. The Irish pensioner cashed €29.81 million after taxes. Kirwan and his spouse received the jackpot at a media event at the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza. “It still seems like a dream to me. I can’t believe that I have won such an amazing prize.”
Kirwan bought a Quick Draw ticket at the Clothespin Laundromat. He also purchased a Powerball ticket, which was a rather lucky decision. “I checked the numbers in the newspaper the next morning. I needed to verify the numbers 3 times and then told my wife: “I believe we have won a lottery prize.” Kirwan selected the numbers randomly.
The winner and his family moved to Purling in 1987. Kirwan worked with the New York City Fire Department for 24 years and retired in 2004. They like living in Purling and they will not leave the village. Kirwan will use the money to rebuild his house while his spouse likes to go on a cruise.
