Tombola Bingo advertisement prohibited for 'negative racial stereotyping'
The British advertising watchdog has prohibited a television advertisement for the Tombola Bingo site for portraying black people as less intelligent than white people and presenting a negative racial stereotype, according to The Guardian. The advertisement features a black man who repeats everything a white man says, the British national daily newspaper reported.
Racial stigmatizingThe advert could be “interpreted as degrading, stigmatizing or damage the position of the black character and for that reason it would most likely be a severe insult” according to the British advertising watchdog. The UK advertising watchdog urged Tombola that future ads should not contain racial stigmatizing content, The Guardian reported.
