Playtech acquires crucial online gambling contract
Playtech is competing for a major share of the global online gambling market. The gaming software development company has acquired a four-year Finnish online gambling deal with Raha-automaattiyhdistys (RAY). The competition among software development companies is fierce. Microgaming has acquired several exclusive licensing and partnership contracts. This enables the software development company to penetrate into currently sealed and exclusive markets.
The RAY contract represents Playtech’s move to attack dominant Microgaming casinos. In addition, the Scandinavian online gambling market is extremely difficult for new online casinos. State monopoly-based policies make it very hard for new entrants. The Raha-automaattiyhdistys deal enables Playtech to exclusively access the Finish
online gambling market.
Finnish gambling monopoly
The Finnish online gambling market is relatively new. Raha-automaattiyhdistys is the first gambling firm that has been officially licensed by the Finnish government. RAY is licensed to introduce a Finland-oriented online casino. Raha-automaattiyhdistys is Finland’s gambling monopoly and has been struggling for a Finnish license for quite a while. Finnish authorities licensed RAY in February 2010. Raha-automaattiyhdistys has chosen Playtech to develop and maintain the new online casino with Playtech’s EdGE gaming portal.ray
Online gambling market
Besides chance games, Finland’s gambling market offers a wide range of online poker games. Additionally, the Finnish market features Playtech’s incorporated mobile gaming software. This results in a new market with a great potential. Finnish players can now enjoy legal online gambling. Finland doesn’t meet the demands by the European Commission to create an open online gambling market. For that reason, Finnish players are technically not allowed to use other online casinos than the state monopoly.
