The number of lottery scams seem to be increasing. Police departments warn: “It’s never necessary to give money in order to claim a lottery prize. So, if anyone asks you to send in money in order to receive a lottery prize, you know it’s a scam.” Lottery scammers particularly target elderly victims.

At first, it appears a tempting offer. You only have to send the lottery agency a certain amount of money to receive the prize that you have won. Scammers will ask you to provide personal bank details.

Authorities advise to disconnect when lottery scammers try to call you. There are always people, especially elderly, who want to stay polite. Scammers take advantage of this politeness.
