Indian police arrest gambling housewives
Five gambling housewives have been detained by the Gujarat University police. The women were arrested for playing poker late on Friday night. One of the other residents in the flat informed the police
about the women who were playing the three card poker game ‘teen patti’.
A Gujarat University police spokesperson revealed the names of the suspects: Saroj Parekh (64), Meena Udani (55), Rekha Sanghvi (65), Neeru Belani (65) and Ami Solanki (27). Police officers also seized
cell phones and money with a total value of around $415. The gambling women were arrested at a department in Ahmedabad City.
With this latest bust, the Indian police emphasize their focus on illegal gambling activities. Authorities stated that gambling emerges especially during Krishna Janmashtami. This Hindu festival triggers many Indians to gamble at home or at farms in city suburbs. Police only raid specific farmhouses after complaints by residents.
