Danish online gambling market set to open its doors
July 1st is a mile-stone for the Danish online gambling market. As of that date, the new gambling legislation comes into effect. This new legislation legalizes and licenses online gambling in Denmark. Online casino and poker operations need to be licensed. Sports betting needs to be authorized separately. Bingo operators have been ruled out up to now.
Party Poker - Danske Spil
State monopoly Danske Spil is already authorized. This gives them a six month lead since new licenses are issued as of January 2011. Danske Spil signed a deal with Party Poker previously this year. This agreement enables the state monopoly to utilize Party Poker’s poker platform and casino in 2011.
Danish officials have firmly warned operators that want to enter the market without a license. Unlicensed operators face severe measures such as internet service provider blocks. These blocks will be commenced by the Danish government and impact both gambling activities and related promotions.
Danish online gambling license
The price of a license is €140.000 and gambling operators need to have an office in Denmark. Additionally, applicants need to have reporting systems that meet Danish taxation requisites. Online gambling operators face a tax rate of approximately 20% of gross revenues.
