Singapore punters set to enjoy legal internet betting

Despite the Remote Gambling Act in Singapore, the Southeast Asian country will approve online betting. That means, gambling enthusiasts can freely place bets on national sites, while online lottery games will also be available. Both the Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Pools will premier online gambling platforms.

S$500K fines

The Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Pools need approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as the Remote Gambling Act bans games of chance over the internet and phone. Operators that offer online gambling in Singapore can be sanctioned with a maximum fine of S$500,000.

Clamp down on illegal gambling

Only companies that use their online gambling proceeds to finance non-profit operations, including good causes and social projects, are eligible for a license. This exception seems to be an effort to tackle black-market betting on unlicensed sites. Opponents claim that legal online gambling will produce a surge in the number of problem gamblers.
