Hastings-based gas station sells $12.5 million lottery ticket
One lucky lottery player in New Zealand has won $12.5 million in cash
courtesy of the Big Wednesday draw. A spokesperson for the NZ Lotteries has announced that a Hastings-based gas station has sold the winning ticket. The fortunate gambler now has to come forward, which goes the same for the $1,711,591 winner
from Bristol (UK).
A Tauranga resident won the previous jackpot, worth $22.6 million, in September 2012. Since then, the lotto prize had grown progressively. “We are excited that somebody has won the staggering jackpot after multiple rollovers. It remains unclear if the lucky ticket-holder is a Hastings resident. It could also be a passer-by or a tourist,” the spokesperson said.
Every cloud has a silver lining
This recent win is one of the largest jackpots won by an individual Big Wednesday player. Four years ago, a family from Masterton took home $30.1 million in cash, which is the largest jackpot in the history of the NZ Lotteries. The lottery player who won the jackpot in September last year decided to purchase a ticket after he discovered that the barbershop was closed. That’s what we call ‘every cloud has a silver lining’.
