Prison sentence for stealing casino employee
A former cashier at the Artichoke Joe's Casino has to spend four months behind bars after stealing money from customers. Wanyin Chen embezzled $34,000 at the gambling venue
in San Bruno (California). The 33-year-old woman also has to repay the money she stole.
$15,000 in winnings disappeared
The fraud came to light when the cashier forged a $15,000 withdrawal
at the gambling parlor in June last year. The casino player in question discovered that his balance totaled only $1,000 when he wanted to cash out his winnings.
The Artichoke Joe's Casino launched an investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage. They noted how Chen made multiple fake withdrawals, allowing her to collect $34,000 in cash. CCTV footage revealed a total of five fraudulent transactions
Repayment and jail term
Last month, Chen neither admitted nor disputed the charge in exchange for a maximum sentence of eight months in prison. A judge at the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office
handed out a 4-month prison sentence, in addition to a probation of five years. The 33-year-old woman is also required to repay the misappropriated funds.
